Questions & Answers
At what age should I bring my child in to see Dr. Campbell?
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children be seen by age seven unless you suspect a problem at an earlier age.
Why are children being treated at such an early age?
This is called Phase I treatment. Early treatment can guide the jaws and erupting teeth into more favorable positions, preserve space for the permanent teeth, (lessening the need for extractions), reduce the possibility of patients fracturing protruding front teeth and avoid more complex problems that may worsen with time. Treatment is often easier and patients are very enthusiastic.
Are you ever too old for braces?
The answer in No! Dr. Campbell has treated patients from age four all the way up to age seventy four. It is never too late to improve your dental health and smile. Increasing numbers of adults are taking advantage of lifelong orthodontic benefits for their personal, social, and professional lives.
How frequent are the appointments?
Answer: The average appointment is approximately every seven to ten weeks. Technological advances in wires have made them more comfortable and maintain a slow and constant pressure which allows faster treatment with fewer appointments.
How much does it cost?
Dr. Campbell offers complimentary consultations. He will assess your need and provide you with cost information and investment options for your dental health.
Can I be treated without extracting teeth?
Dr. Campbell has a non-extraction philosophy and in most cases extractions are not necessary. Plus, advances in early treatment allow Dr. Campbell to create space for all of the patient's natural teeth. This approach gives patients a more natural smile and a pleasing profile.
How long before my teeth are straight?
Depending on the severity of the patient's problems, treatment can last anywhere from one to three years. Advances in technology are shortening treatment times.
Do I need to wear a retainer?
Yes, the retainer is worn full time for a least a year. Dr. Campbell will then re-evaluate your smile to decide on further use of the retainer.
Do I need to wear any extra oral appliances? (headgear, etc.)
With Dr. Campbell's treatment philosophy, appliances such as headgear are seldom needed.
Does my insurance cover the treatment?
If your policy includes orthodontic benefits, we assist you in maximizing your benefit. Our financial coordinator is familiar with these plans and is skilled at helping you.
Does it hurt?
This is maybe the most asked question by our patients. With the new "space age" wires Dr. Campbell uses, treatment today is more comfortable than ever. Our patients' comfort is always our ultimate concern.
